Microsoft-owned Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) has announced multiple new Halo projects are underway. This announcement also unveiled the studio's rebranding, signifying a fresh start for the franchise.
Studio Head Pierre Hintze stated, "Halo's history comprises two distinct chapters: Bungie and 343 Industries. Now, we're responding to player demand for more. We're not just improving development efficiency; we're reimagining how we create Halo games. This marks the beginning of a new chapter."
The studio will leverage Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) for its upcoming Halo titles. UE5's reputation for high-quality graphics and realistic physics makes it an ideal choice. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted, "The first Halo redefined console gaming in 2001, and Halo has consistently pushed boundaries. Epic is honored Halo Studios chose our tools for their future endeavors!"
Halo's leadership team detailed the franchise's new direction. Hintze explained, "We previously overemphasized creating conditions for Halo Infinite's success. Switching to UE5 allows us to create more high-quality Halo games with a singular focus: making the best possible Halo games."
COO Elizabeth Van Wyck emphasized player feedback as a driving force: "Our success hinges on creating games players want. This new structure empowers the game developers to make key decisions. We're actively seeking broader player feedback to guide our direction. Ultimately, player evaluation is paramount."
Studio Art Director Chris Matthew highlighted UE5's advantages: "Some aspects of our previous engine are nearly 25 years old. While 343 continuously developed it, Unreal Engine offers features unavailable to us, features that would have required immense time and resources to replicate."
The transition to UE5 also streamlines updates and content delivery. Van Wyck noted, "It's not just about development time, but also about update speed and responsiveness to player desires." With its new vision in place, Halo Studios has begun recruiting for these new projects.
