Stellar Blade Sequel Promises More Intense Story Following Record Sales

With Stellar Blade surpassing 3 million copies sold globally, game director Hyung-tae Kim has confirmed the sequel will feature a "more serious" narrative approach.

In an exclusive interview with This Is Game, translated by Genki, Kim revealed the original game's deeper storyline had to be trimmed significantly during development. Budget constraints forced the team to scale back cinematic sequences, leaving many story elements about Eve's world unexplained - including those infamous frequent costume changes.

A Story Waiting to be Told

PlayWhile considering adding post-launch cutscenes to clarify the story, Kim worried this might disrupt players' existing understanding of the game. Instead, fans can anticipate a "fully realized narrative experience" in the upcoming sequel.

Don't hold your breath for an imminent release though - the entire development team is currently focused on perfecting the PC port. Kim optimistically suggested 2027 as a potential window, promising the studio would "give it our all" to meet that target.

Record-Breaking Steam Debut

The PC version launched on June 11 and immediately shattered records, becoming Sony's most successful single-player Steam release. Its peak concurrent players soared past 192,000 - more than doubling Ghost of Tsushima's 77,154 record, and eclipsing God of War's 73,529 and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered's 66,436 peaks. Currently, only the multiplayer Helldivers 2 surpasses these numbers among Sony-published Steam titles.

IGN's review awarded Stellar Blade a 7/10, praising its core action mechanics while noting: "The game excels where it counts for action enthusiasts, though underdeveloped characters, a thin storyline, and some cumbersome RPG elements keep it from reaching the genre's upper echelon."

The PC edition boasts several enhancements including Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 support, uncapped framerates, additional language options (Japanese/Chinese voiceovers), ultrawide compatibility, improved environmental textures, and full DualSense controller integration with haptics.
