"Monster Hunter Wilds: Unique Weapon Designs Revealed - IGN"

by Andrew May 20,2025

The fanbase of Monster Hunter has often expressed dissatisfaction with the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World, sparking curiosity about what Monster Hunter Wilds might bring to the table. While glimpses of weapons from Wilds have been revealed, it's been challenging to fully assess their design philosophy—until now. Director Yuya Tokuda has provided clarity on this topic.

Discussing the Hope series armor and weapons, Tokuda stated, “Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design.” This statement directly contrasts the design approach of Monster Hunter: World, ensuring that fans need not worry about weapons looking too similar in Monster Hunter Wilds. In Monster Hunter: World, even though some weapons evolved into unique forms with upgrades, many remained visually similar, as seen with the final aqua line Sword and Shield compared to the Pukei-Pukei sword and shield, or the bone line long sword versus the Jyuratodus long sword at launch.
