Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Upgrade Locations: Workbenches and Party Camps
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the world. Interact with an Adra Waystone to set up a camp; these will appear on your map as tent icons, enabling fast travel. Upgrades require various materials, readily found or craftable, with higher-quality upgrades demanding rarer Adra.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels
Gear power is determined by two factors: Quality and additional upgrade tiers.
-
Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjective. Lower-quality gear is ineffective against higher-level enemies. Matching or exceeding enemy Quality is essential for optimal performance.
-
Additional Upgrade Tiers (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist, offering incremental stat boosts. All three must be completed before advancing to the next Quality.
Weapon Quality Breakdown:
- Common – Green, Level I
- Fine – Blue, Level II
- Exceptional – Purple, Level III
- Superb – Red, Level IV
- Legendary – Gold, Level V
Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear
Avowed features standard and unique gear. Standard gear is readily available but has limited upgrade potential (maxing at Superb Quality). Unique gear, often quest rewards or boss drops, boasts superior stats, perks, and higher upgrade ceilings (reaching Legendary Quality).
Upgrade Strategy:
Focus resources on upgrading Unique weapons and armor. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment; sell or dismantle it for resources to enhance your Unique items.
Avowed is available now on PC and Xbox.
