On April 9, Sega shared via X that Sonic Rumble will launch worldwide on May 8, 2025. The announcement came with a fresh trailer showcasing dynamic gameplay footage.
Sonic Rumble marks the series’ first multiplayer party game, where up to 32 players battle across diverse levels and challenges. Sega describes it as, “Players guide Sonic series characters through a toy world crafted by Dr. Eggman, navigating perilous obstacle courses and intense arenas.”
Concerns about pay-to-win mechanics surfaced due to the game’s free-to-play model. At Tokyo Game Show 2024, Director Makoto Tase addressed these in an Automaton interview, stating, “We’re designing a straightforward system where players can quickly purchase desired items for a fixed price, avoiding gacha mechanics with random item drops.”
