"Ultimate Engine Tweaks: The Top Mod for Oblivion Remastered Boosts PC Performance"

by Allison May 05,2025

If you're among the dedicated fans of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* on PC, you've likely encountered some significant issues. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, the remastered version suffers from severe performance problems. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."

"Even with the most powerful hardware, the stuttering is egregious, significantly diminishing the gaming experience to the extent that it's baffling how this was deemed acceptable for release," Battaglia remarked.

"Beyond the stuttering, this game is unusually resource-intensive. Even if you can tolerate the stutter, you'll find yourself lowering settings just to maintain a decent average frame rate," he added.

PlayGiven these issues, it's no shock that the top-downloaded mod for *Oblivion Remastered* on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has seen an astonishing 386,604 downloads in less than a week.

Here’s what the mod description says:

"Definitive Unreal ‘Engine.ini’ changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving picture clarity without any visual loss."

"After months of testing with UE5, I'm excited to share my definitive custom ‘Engine.ini’ tweaks for the game," P40L0 explained.

"My goal was to integrate as many optimizations as possible for CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eliminate most stuttering, boost performance, decrease input latency, and enhance picture clarity by removing effects like Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without compromising visuals or causing glitches or crashes."

Feedback from users who've installed the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)," added yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.

Despite its PC-specific issues, *Oblivion Remastered* remains immensely popular, boasting a high concurrent player peak on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, it maintains a 'very positive' user review rating.

However, a hotfix released on April 25 has impacted Microsoft Store players, specifically affecting their UI settings for graphics related to upscaling and anti-aliasing. At the time of this article's publication, those playing via Game Pass for PC cannot adjust these settings due to a problem with the settings UI. Bethesda has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.
