Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, and with it, they've teased their debut game. In an exciting post on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, shared that teamLFG originated from the renowned Destiny and Marathon developer, Bungie. They are currently working on an ambitious incubation project that Hulst is very enthusiastic about.
The name teamLFG stands for 'Looking For Group,' reflecting a focus on social gaming. Their first game is described as a team-based action game, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and even "frog-type games." Players will dive into a lighthearted and comedic world set within a brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.
"We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," teamLFG stated. They aim to foster a gaming environment where players log on to find their teammates already online, recognize familiar names, and create memorable moments and stories from their matches. "We want our players to love remembering that one time where they pulled off That Play that changed the whole story of the match. As we say on the team – dat’s da good stuff."
The studio plans to develop immersive multiplayer worlds filled with action games that players can learn, play, and master over countless hours. They intend to involve their community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback not only before launch but throughout the game's live service, fostering growth and engagement for years to come.

teamLFG's game is the result of an incubation project that was spun out of Bungie amid significant layoffs last year. Following the Sony acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs in November 2023, affecting around 100 employees. A second round of layoffs in 2024 impacted another 220 people, or 17% of the studio's workforce, with 155 being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was during these changes that the incubation project, now known as teamLFG's game, was announced.
Late last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in implementing positive changes to the live service looter shooter Destiny 2. Since then, Bungie has fully revealed their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the roadmap for the future of Destiny 2. However, they have no plans for Destiny 3 and have canceled a Destiny spinoff project called Payback.
