Joining the ranks of potential remakes is the original Devil May Cry (DMC), as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in revamping the game.In a recent video on his YouTube channel, dated May 8, Kamiya responded to fan inquiries about remakes and sequels. When directly asked about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally released in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, a significant shift in its core concepts led Capcom to launch it as the standalone title we know today.
Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya shared a poignant personal story. In 2000, after a painful breakup, he channeled his emotions into the creation of DMC, transforming his heartbreak into a memorable gaming experience.
Kamiya admits to never revisiting his games post-release, including DMC. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he acknowledges the game's age and its old-school design. If given the opportunity to remake DMC, he would start from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While the idea of a remake is currently on the back burner for Kamiya, he remains open to the possibility. He confidently remarked, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya has expressed interest in remaking another of his works, Viewtiful Joe, sparking hope among fans for a revival of these beloved titles in the near future.
