- Hotseat Mode enables asynchronous multiplayer gameplay on a single device.
- Choose from standard, full co-op, and battle royale variants.
- Halberds update rebalances underpowered late-game units for better performance.
Feral Interactive has rolled out a substantial update for Total War: Medieval II on iOS and Android, introducing two long-awaited features. Dubbed Hotseats & Halberds, this release adds Hotseat multiplayer and significant late-game balance adjustments.
Hotseat Mode in Total War: Medieval II allows multiple players to share one device while taking turns in the same campaign. Although previously available in the Kingdoms expansion on PC, it now comes to mobile with additional capabilities.
Access Hotseat Mode in both the Grand Campaign and Kingdoms expansion. You can select standard rules, full co-op, or a fresh battle royale option. The battle royale mode scores players in areas like military power and population, and includes automatic elimination to maintain excitement.
To enhance multiplayer sessions, the update introduces optional settings for quicker campaigns. Diplomats have increased movement range, buildings cost less and construct faster, and key historical events such as the Mongol invasion occur earlier.

On the combat side, the Halberds component delivers a thorough rebalancing of weaker late-era troops. Pike formations have been redesigned with a Cohesion system, helping them maintain formation and counter attackers effectively until their morale breaks.

Troops like Zweihanders and Daneaxe fighters now possess Cohesion Disruption, perfect for shattering enemy lines. Halberdiers also receive improvements, establishing them as powerful substitutes for spearmen with superior stats and better defense against cavalry. Finally, Gunpowder units gain advantages—musketeers and arquebusiers fire more rapidly due to AI and formation enhancements.
