inZOI Sells 1 Million Copies in Week, Krafton Eyes Long-Term Franchise

by Nora Apr 18,2025

Krafton's latest venture, inZOI, has stormed the gaming world by selling an impressive 1 million copies within its first week. This marks the fastest sales milestone for any game published by the South Korean gaming giant. Launched on PC through Steam in Early Access on March 28, inZOI—a competitor to The Sims—quickly captured the public's attention, not least due to an unintended feature allowing players to run over and kill children, which Krafton promptly patched as a bug.

Despite this controversy, inZOI has garnered a 'very positive' user review rating on Steam. The game's popularity soared with a peak of 175,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, securing the third spot in the Games category. Remarkably, it surged to the top of Steam’s Global Top Sellers List by sales revenue just 40 minutes after its release.

The in-game user-generated content (UGC) platform, Canvas, also saw significant engagement, attracting over 1.2 million participants on launch day and hosting over 470,000 pieces of uploaded content.

IGN's review of the Early Access version of inZOI gave it a 6/10, noting, "inZOI is a visually striking life simulator with plenty of ambition, but not enough depth as of its Early Access launch."

Krafton credits its pre-launch promotional efforts and community engagement for building trust and momentum. The global showcase and demo build were particularly effective in generating interest. CEO CH Kim expressed gratitude and excitement about presenting inZOI globally through Early Access, emphasizing ongoing communication with players and the aim to develop inZOI into a long-term franchise IP.

Looking ahead, Krafton plans to roll out future updates including mod support and new cities, with all updates and DLC being free until the game's full release. In response to player feedback, Krafton has committed to swiftly addressing reported issues through hotfixes throughout April. The company acknowledged the scale of inZOI's global community as a "next-level experience," and admitted to navigating some trial and error in optimizing communication channels.
