After nearly a decade since its initial reveal, Nintendo is finally set to release Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for both the Switch and Switch 2 on December 4, 2025.
The announcement was made today during Nintendo's major Direct presentation, putting an end to months of speculation about the game's status. Fans had grown concerned after the title was absent from the Switch 2's reveal event in early April, leading to rumors of potential development hurdles or another delay.
Today's gameplay trailer, however, provided a new glimpse, showing Samus Aran piloting a motorbike-like vehicle across what appears to be a more expansive open-world environment.
The journey to release for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been notably turbulent. As the highly anticipated successor to 2007's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on the Wii, this new entry in the first-person adventure series has been eagerly awaited for years.
Development initially started at Bandai Namco Studios but was rebooted and handed back to Retro Studios—the original trilogy's developer—after two years, due to creative differences. The project then entered a long period of silence before its formal re-announcement in 2024, where it was confirmed as a cross-generation release for the Switch and its successor.
