In an unexpected twist, Frostpunk developer 11 bit Studios announced their next installment in the series. On April 24, via a post on Twitter (X), they introduced Frostpunk 1886, a remake of the original game, now powered by the Unreal Engine.
The announcement highlighted that Frostpunk 1886 will introduce a brand new Purpose Path, the much-anticipated mod support, and more, all while honoring the essence of the original game. Further details were shared in a Steam post on the same day, outlining the studio's vision for this ambitious project.
11 bit Studios is transitioning from their in-house Liquid Engine, which powered the first game, to the Unreal Engine. Following the development of Frostpunk 2 with Unreal Engine 5, the team recognized the potential to enhance the original game significantly. "Our goal is to expand upon it with enhanced visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," they explained.
Eyeing A 2027 Release
