Elden Ring Nightreign sold two million copies within its first day of release.
“Pre-orders and early sales have propelled the game past the remarkable milestone of two million units,” publisher Bandai Namco confirmed.
The cooperative multiplayer spin-off launched overnight and quickly climbed Steam’s most-played charts, reaching an impressive peak of 313,593 concurrent players.
Of course, that only tells part of the story—Microsoft and Sony do not share player numbers for Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Still, FromSoftware has now revealed the scale of Elden Ring Nightreign’s success, announcing that two million copies have already been sold.

Elden Ring was a major success, selling 30 million copies since its launch in 2022, and it seems unlikely that Nightreign will come close to matching those numbers. For context, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold five million copies in its first three days after launching in 2024. It will be interesting to see whether similar early sales figures are announced for Elden Ring Nightreign.
Despite the strong player turnout, Elden Ring Nightreign has faced some criticism. It currently holds a 'Mixed' user review rating on Steam, with many complaints focusing on the lack of two-player co-op and voice chat. Players also report that the solo experience feels excessively challenging, and that forming a full three-player squad can be difficult. A patch aimed at improving solo gameplay is scheduled for release next week.
As noted in IGN’s Elden Ring Nightreign review: “Let’s address the most important caveat upfront: if you plan to play Nightreign entirely on your own and aren’t a deeply dedicated Elden Ring player who actively seeks to increase the game’s already steep challenge, then Nightreign may not be for you. While a single-player option is available, its balance is so off that I’d be surprised if it isn’t adjusted via patches within the first month. And this comes from someone who lives and breathes this genre.”
