Definitive Edition Reveals Xenoblade Chronicles X Lore

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Unveils New Story Details in Latest Trailer

A newly released trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers deeper insight into the game's narrative and characters. The "The Year is 2054" trailer, narrated by protagonist Elma, details the events leading to humanity's arrival on the planet Mira after Earth's destruction in an intergalactic war. Gameplay footage showcases the updated Switch version, highlighting the adaptation from the Wii U's GamePad functionality.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series, a JRPG creation by Monolith Soft's Tetsuya Takahashi, enjoys Nintendo console exclusivity. The original Xenoblade Chronicles's Western release was secured through fan efforts, paving the way for the series' success, including Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and the spin-off Xenoblade Chronicles X. The Definitive Edition brings the entire series to the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer reveals that in 2054, a surviving group of humans escaped Earth's destruction aboard the White Whale ark, eventually crash-landing on Mira. A critical piece of technology, the Lifehold (containing most of the human survivors in stasis), was lost in the crash. The player's mission is to locate the Lifehold before its power depletes.

Expanded Narrative in the Definitive Edition

While the original game concluded with a cliffhanger, the Definitive Edition promises new story content, potentially resolving the unresolved ending. The game's expansive RPG elements, beyond the main BLADE mission (finding the Lifehold), include exploring Mira, deploying probes, and combating both native and alien creatures to establish a new home for humanity.

The Wii U version heavily utilized the GamePad for mapping and interactions. The trailer demonstrates how these features have been seamlessly integrated into the Switch version. The GamePad's map is now a mini-map in the upper-right corner, mirroring other Xenoblade titles. Other UI elements have been smoothly transferred to the main screen, maintaining a clean interface despite the adaptation. While this may subtly alter the gameplay dynamics from the original, the overall experience appears polished and improved.
