Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 boasts a roster of memorable characters, with Esquie, the game's lovable giant companion, standing out as a potential mascot. Sandfall Interactive, the studio behind the game, has issued a warning about the proliferation of fake merchandise surrounding Esquie, while also teasing the development of an official Esquie plush toy.
In a recent post on X/Twitter from the official Expedition 33 account, Sandfall Interactive highlighted the emergence of "suspicious" websites selling Esquie plushies. The studio clarified, "To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed. Many of them are using AI-generated artwork to advertise, and we strongly recommend against purchasing from these sources. They could be scams."
Balancing the excitement with caution, as Esquie might put it, Sandfall Interactive confirmed that they are actively working on creating official Esquie plushies. "In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!" the studio urged fans.
For those who have experienced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the appeal of an Esquie plushie is clear. Introduced in Act 1, Esquie serves as both a traveling companion and a method for overworld travel, reminiscent of Big Hero 6's Baymax. This connection makes it easy to understand the demand for an Esquie plush, and it's reassuring to know that Sandfall is on the case. A quick Google search reveals unofficial sites and discussions about Esquie plush sellers, but fans eager for the authentic merchandise from Sandfall and Kepler will need to wait. There's no word yet on whether the official plushie will include a wine-filling feature, a playful nod to the game's lore.
Last week, Sandfall Interactive rolled out patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which included balance adjustments for Maelle's Stendhal ability. Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron recently commended the game, describing its developers as a "shining example of French audacity and creativity."
