Despite EA's efforts to keep details under wraps by requiring non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) from players, the upcoming untitled Battlefield game has still managed to leak online. Numerous videos and screenshots have surfaced, showcasing the experiences of those participating in the closed playtesting. These leaks appear to confirm the modern setting that Vince Zampella previously hinted at, setting it apart from other entries in the Battlefield series. A quick look at the Battlefield subreddit reveals intense firefights, glimpses of the game's destructible environments, and new gameplay mechanics such as the ability to hang off vehicles and drag wounded teammates to safety.
Surprisingly, EA has taken a relatively relaxed approach to these leaks. Typically, game publishers are quick to remove leaked early footage due to concerns over incomplete animations, unfinished user interfaces, and subpar graphics. However, despite players breaching their confidentiality agreements by sharing this content, EA has not yet issued any takedown notices.
This leniency might be influenced by the positive reception the leaks are receiving, in stark contrast to the lukewarm response to Battlefield 2042. Fans have expressed excitement and optimism about the game's current state. One player remarked, "I am scared to say that but this game is shaping up very damn well. I hope there are no catches…" Another noted, "The animations of the weapons moving around while running / doing anything look better than 2042 to me." Enthusiasm is palpable with comments like, "Dude, even in a pre-alpha state, the explosions, bullets, and projectiles whizzing by, buildings crumbling down, dust kicking up. This has so much potential!" and "I can't get over how good the sounds and the destruction look at alpha."
EA anticipates launching the next Battlefield game within the fiscal year 2026, which spans from April 2025 to March 2026. Following the first official unveiling last month, it's been confirmed that the game will feature a traditional, single-player, linear campaign, a feature that was notably absent in Battlefield 2042 and has been eagerly anticipated by fans.
