A young woman embarks on a powerful journey through time, reliving pivotal moments in her family’s past.
DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D, narrative-driven adventure that follows a young Black woman in Detroit as she returns to her grandmother’s cherished home and uncovers generations of history shaped by race, place, and the enduring struggle for belonging. Through intimate, emotionally resonant storytelling, the game invites players to step into her shoes and experience the difficult choices her ancestors faced across decades of systemic change.
As an interactive narrative, DOT’S HOME reveals how structural forces like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification have shaped where families live—and what they had to sacrifice along the way. By placing players in decision-making roles during critical moments, the game poses a profound question: How did your family end up where they are today, and how much true choice was involved in that journey?
Developed by the Rise-Home Stories Project, DOT’S HOME emerges from a three-year creative collaboration between multimedia artists and housing and land justice advocates. Together, they’re reimagining the stories we tell about community, displacement, and resilience—offering a new lens on the past, present, and future of American neighborhoods.
