Russian Checkers 8×8

Move and Capture Rules:

  • White begins the game.
  • Checkers move exclusively on dark squares.
  • You must capture an opponent's checker if possible.
  • Capturing is allowed both forward and backward.
  • Kings can move and capture along any diagonal.
  • The Turkish strike rule applies: an opponent's checker can be captured only once per move.
  • If multiple capture options exist, you may choose any, not necessarily the longest.
  • Upon reaching the opponent's edge, a checker becomes a king and can immediately move as a king if possible.

Draw Conditions:

  • A draw is declared if a player with checkers and three or more kings against one opponent's king fails to capture the opponent's king within 15 moves after the balance of forces is established.
  • In positions with only kings, if the balance of forces remains unchanged (no captures, no new kings) for 30 moves in 4-5 piece endings or 60 moves in 6-7 piece endings, a draw is declared.
  • If a player with three pieces (three kings, two kings and a checker, a king and two checkers, or three simple checkers) against one opponent's king on the "high road" cannot capture the opponent's king within five moves, a draw is declared.
  • A draw is declared if, over 15 moves, only kings are moved without any simple checkers being moved or captured.
  • A draw is declared if the same position repeats three or more times, with the same player to move each time.

International Checkers 10×10

Move and Capture Rules:

  • White starts the game.
  • Checkers move only on dark squares.
  • You must capture an opponent's checker if possible.
  • Capturing is allowed both forward and backward.
  • Kings can move and capture along any diagonal.
  • The Turkish strike rule applies: an opponent's checker can be captured only once per move.
  • The majority rule applies: if multiple capture options exist, you must choose the one that captures the most checkers.
  • If a simple checker reaches the opponent's edge during a capture and can continue capturing, it remains a simple checker and continues its move.
  • If a simple checker reaches the opponent's edge by a move or during a capture, it becomes a king and stops. It can move as a king on its next turn.
