VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application
The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, leverages population data to provide electronic identification and authentication services. Designed for individuals residing in or traveling through Vietnam, VNeID serves as a digital alternative to traditional identification documents, facilitating the development of digital citizenship, government, and society.
VNeID offers a range of utilities, including the ability to submit medical reports and domestic travel declarations swiftly. Additionally, it aids authorities in tracking secondary COVID-19 infections and promptly notifying affected individuals.
Access Permissions
By using VNeID, users consent to the application accessing the following functions on their devices:
- Internet Access: Allows the application to connect to the internet from the user's device.
- Camera Access: Enables scanning of QR codes on Citizen ID (CCCD) cards, streamlining the input of basic citizen information and facilitating quick travel and medical declarations at scanning points.
- Media Access: Grants access to photos, videos, audios, and files on the device to store QR code images for verification at citizen checkpoints.
- Notification Permissions: Permits the application to send notifications to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection
Users are required to input data, including medical and domestic travel information, either for themselves or on behalf of others with their consent. The personal information collected includes full name, phone number, citizen identification, gender, year of birth, permanent address, nationality, health status, departure and destination details, vehicle number plate, and exposure to individuals with COVID-19. All data is collected with the user's explicit permission through form submissions.
Users bear full responsibility for their actions and the accuracy of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection
The National Population Data Center, under the Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and protects user data, using it solely for COVID-19 prevention and control efforts. The data will not be used for commercial purposes or to infringe on personal privacy. Information may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention measures.
The application developer commits to not collecting or using user information for any purposes beyond those stated. Furthermore, no information will be disclosed that could harm users or violate their privacy rights under Vietnamese law or the application's policy.
- No Location Collection: VNeID does not gather data about your location.
- Anonymity: Users engage with the community anonymously. Only authorized entities can access information about those infected or suspected of infection due to close contact with COVID-19 cases for tracing purposes.
