Description

Control your device with switches or the front camera, enhancing your interaction with your Android device in a way that's tailored to your needs. Whether you're using switches to navigate or the front camera to make selections, Switch Access offers a versatile solution for those who find direct touchscreen interaction challenging.

To begin using Switch Access:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Accessibility > Switch Access.

Set up a switch

Switch Access enables you to scan and select items on your screen using different types of switches:

Physical switches:

  • USB or Bluetooth switches, such as buttons or keyboards.
  • On-device switches, like volume buttons.

Camera switches:

  • Use facial gestures like opening your mouth, smiling, or raising your eyebrows.
  • Look left, right, or up to navigate.

Scan your device

Once your switch is set up, you can interact with your screen using various scanning methods:

  • Linear scanning: Move through items one by one.
  • Row-column scanning: Scan rows first, then items within the selected row.
  • Point scanning: Use moving lines to pinpoint a specific location on your screen, then select.
  • Group selection: Assign switches to color groups. Items on the screen are color-coded, and you select by pressing the switch corresponding to the item's color, narrowing down your selection until you reach your target.

Use the menus

When an item is selected, a menu appears offering actions like select, scroll, copy, paste, and more. Additionally, a top-screen menu helps you navigate your device, allowing you to open notifications, return to the home screen, adjust volume, and perform other functions.

Navigate with Camera Switches

Utilize your phone's front camera to navigate with facial gestures. You can browse or select apps using these gestures, customizing the sensitivity and duration to suit your preferences.

Record shortcuts

Record and assign touch gestures to switches or menus for frequent or complex actions. These can include pinching, zooming, scrolling, swiping, double tapping, and more. For example, record a gesture that swipes left twice to turn two pages in an ebook.
