Ubisoft Revives Project Maverick: Report

by Stella Jan 06,2026

Insider Gaming reports that the Far Cry universe's extraction shooter set in Alaska has undergone a full reboot. Initially dubbed Project Maverick, the game started as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7 before Ubisoft overhauled its development during an internal review. Though well-received by testers and staff, Ubisoft's leadership redirected most resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7). The multiplayer component was ultimately shelved after its technical team reassigned to other projects.

Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a support-focused studio, has now taken over development while nearly the entire original team shifts to the next Far Cry installment.

Insider Tom Henderson (December 2024) reveals Far Cry 7 will thrust players into a high-stakes race against time. The story follows a protagonist whose family is abducted by a shadowy cult conducting gruesome hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their loved ones within 72 in-game hours (24 real-world hours), making time management a critical gameplay mechanic that amplifies tension.

A wristwatch-mounted timer will serve as a persistent reminder of the ticking clock, ratcheting up pressure and demanding strategic snap decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to deliver an intense experience where every second matters and choices carry significant weight.
