The excitement for DC's next cinematic venture, *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, has just kicked into high gear as filming officially begins. To mark this momentous occasion, DC's head honcho, James Gunn, took to Bluesky to share a sneak peek of Milly Alcock stepping into the iconic role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. The photo captures Alcock in her actor's chair, marking a thrilling first glimpse of the character in this new adaptation.
Gunn expressed his enthusiasm on Bluesky, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Craig Gillespie, renowned for directing *Cruella* and *I, Tonya*, will be steering the ship for this much-anticipated film, as previously reported in April.
While details remain scarce, it's clear that *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* will draw heavily from the acclaimed graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The story focuses on an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel was a standout, earning a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards, making it a must-read for fans.
Joining Milly Alcock in the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts, who will portray the villainous Krem, and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. The ensemble also features David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as the notorious Lobo.
*Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* is set to be the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following the release of James Gunn's *Superman* this summer. Other projects in development include *The Batman Part II*, which may or may not connect with Gunn's broader cinematic universe, and a rumored *Clayface* movie from acclaimed director Mike Flanagan.
