Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster's Extended Development Journey
Preserving the Classic Experience

The Suikoden I & II HD Remaster's five-year development period reflects the team's commitment to delivering an authentic experience. In a March 4, 2025 interview with Dengeki Online, the developers detailed their meticulous approach to remastering these beloved RPGs.
Originally announced in 2022 with a planned 2023 release, the project was delayed to ensure quality. Series IP Director Takahiro Sakiyama explained that extensive debugging revealed areas needing improvement, leading to the postponement.
"Our priority was understanding rather than innovating," explained Game Director Tatsuya Ogushi. "After thorough discussions with Sakiyama about quality standards, we identified numerous aspects requiring careful attention."
Franchise Revival Begins

Producer Rui Naito emphasized that this remaster represents the first phase in reviving the entire Suikoden franchise. "This needed to establish solid groundwork for future projects," Naito explained to the development team.
"The instruction was clear - create something exceptional," Naito continued. "A mediocre product at this critical juncture could have jeopardized the entire franchise revival."
New Suikoden Projects Unveiled

The March 4 Gensou Suikoden Live event revealed multiple franchise expansions. Naito described these announcements as the next phase in the revival strategy, though the complete roadmap remains undefined.
"We've focused intensely on perfecting the HD Remaster while developing Suikoden STAR LEAP and the Suikoden II anime adaptation," Naito stated. "Successful execution of these projects will determine our next steps."
New announcements included Suikoden: The Anime, a Konami Animation production adapting Suikoden II's story, and the mobile RPG "Genso Suikoden: STAR LEAP." Both projects have released teaser trailers while awaiting official launch dates.
Konami's initiative signals a comprehensive revival effort for the beloved franchise, with additional projects still in development.
