Star Wars Hunters Axed After 9 Months, Steam Launch Scrapped

by Lillian Nov 15,2025

Zynga, publisher of Star Wars Hunters, has revealed plans to discontinue the game entirely mere months after its launch, while also canceling the proposed PC release on Steam.

The free-to-play team-based arena combat game developed by NaturalMotion debuted on Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in June 2024. IGN's Star Wars: Hunters review awarded it a 7/10, praising its "lighthearted PvP gameplay" while noting its limitations as "entertaining briefly but lacking long-term appeal."

This assessment proved accurate as Zynga confirmed that following careful evaluation, Star Wars: Hunters will receive its final content update on April 15 before servers permanently close on October 1, 2025.

"We recognize this decision may disappoint players," Zynga stated. "Our team sincerely appreciates your engagement with the game's community and will maintain transparency throughout this transition period."

The shutdown timeline includes extending Season 5 through March 25 with recycled events and shop bundles. Players will have additional opportunities to achieve Kyber 1 rank before April 15's final update introduces new Support Hunter Tuya—automatically unlocked for all players alongside complimentary content.

While ranked leaderboards and rotating game modes will persist until October's server closure, Zynga's announcement omitted mention of the previously planned Steam Early Access release. The game's Steam listing now states it's "no longer available."

The Hunters discontinuation marks a setback for Zynga's expansion beyond mobile hits like FarmVille into console and PC gaming. Executive Yaron Leyvannov had described the PC version as fulfilling community requests while establishing new publishing territory for the company.

The Star Wars gaming universe continues expanding with Respawn Entertainment's upcoming third Jedi installment and Bit Reactor's tactical title expected at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
