The next chapter in the Sonic the Hedgehog saga is speeding towards theaters! Paramount Pictures has officially slated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for a March 19, 2027 release, according to Variety. While plot details remain under wraps, the announcement comes as no surprise following the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 raked in a remarkable $218 million domestically and over $420 million globally, solidifying its place as the highest-grossing film in the franchise. This achievement is particularly impressive considering the initial controversy surrounding the character's design, which underwent significant alterations during post-production.
Furthermore, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 secured the second-highest-grossing video game movie spot in North America, trailing only the Super Mario Bros. Movie, continuing the epic cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega.
The live-action Sonic universe continues to expand, boasting three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off series. The films follow Sonic (Ben Schwartz) as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment introduces new characters from the game, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with Sonic 3 finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).
