Get Ready to Race! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Unveils New Features and Closed Network Test
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the upcoming kart racer from Sega and Sonic Team, promises the largest roster in series history, boasting iconic characters from the Sonic and Sega universes. A recent PlayStation.blog post revealed exciting new gameplay mechanics and features.
An Unprecedented Roster:
While the full roster remains under wraps, the game is slated to launch with 23 characters, with more to come. The revealed lineup includes fan favorites like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, alongside characters from Sonic Riders (Jet, Wave, Storm), the Deadly Six (Zavok, Zazz), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega), Dr. Eggman and his creations, the Chaotix, and even Blaze, Silver, Cream, and Big.
Dynamic Racing with CrossWorlds:
Prepare for a revolutionary racing experience! Travel Rings transport racers between diverse CrossWorlds in real-time, transforming the race landscape dramatically. Each CrossWorld offers a unique theme park-style environment filled with surprises, obstacles, and stunning scenery. The game features 24 main tracks and 15 CrossWorlds. Expect dynamic track changes throughout each lap, adding a fresh challenge with every race, reminiscent of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Extensive Customization and More:
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers unparalleled vehicle customization, allowing players to modify their vehicles' front and rear parts, wheels, colors, tire glow, cockpit, and more. Players can also equip their racers with 23 different gadgets to fine-tune their racing strategy. The return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders adds a thrilling hoverboard-based racing option to the mix, alongside 45 unique original vehicles. Sonic Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka calls it "a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date."
Closed Network Test:
A closed network test is scheduled for PlayStation 5, giving fans an early look at the game. Registration is open from February 12th to 19th, 2025, with the test running worldwide from February 21st to 24th, 2025. Completing a post-test survey earns participants an exclusive in-game sticker and title.
