Ubisoft is setting the sails for an epic Year 2 of Skull and Bones, aiming to make the pirate multiplayer game's biggest year yet with substantial content additions. These include new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a much-anticipated feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious roadmap for the next year. The highlight of the presentation was Season 3: Guts and Glory, which will introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Players have been eager for this addition since the game's launch last February.
Set to launch this fall, Season 3 will allow players to engage in combat on land, featuring swordfights and firearms. This exciting addition is part of the Rogue Warlord update, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled crew members known as Officers. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, though full details will be revealed later this year.
While land combat is the most significant addition, Ubisoft's presentation promised a wealth of content throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces a loot-enhancing item ascension feature, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, set for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the impressive Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will introduce the Kraken, Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If the updates sound exciting, you'll be pleased to know that Skull and Bones is offering a free weekend from April 17 to 21. During this period, players can experience pirate PvP firsthand and purchase the game at a discounted price, though the exact discount hasn't been announced yet.
Skull and Bones was released on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft hasn't released official sales figures, they did report "record player engagement" shortly after the game's launch. Interestingly, the release of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
