Sonic Rumble is still awaiting its global release, yet it’s already making waves with a high-profile crossover event. Dubbed Crossover Event #0: SEGA Stars, this collaboration brings some of the most iconic characters from SEGA’s rich gaming history into the world of Sonic Rumble. The event runs live until May 7th—just one day before the game’s official worldwide launch on May 8th.
Currently in its soft launch phase, Sonic Rumble has been available in over 40 countries. It kicked off its first pre-launch phase last summer (2024), rolling out in regions such as the Philippines, Scandinavian countries, and Colombia. The second pre-launch wave expanded availability further, including Canada, Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, and more.
What Awaits You in the SEGA Stars Crossover?
If you’re among the lucky players in regions where the game has already soft-launched, you can jump into the SEGA Stars crossover right away.
First up, the Altered Beast gang makes a dramatic return. One of the standout features is the Werewolf transformation, which is completely free to unlock.
Fans of retro beast modes will be pleased to know that both Werebear and Weredragon are now playable—but with a twist. Weredragon is exclusive to the Premium Pass, while Werebear may be unlocked using regular in-game currency, depending on your spending preference.
Adding even more flair to the crossover, Opa-Opa and Upa-Upa from Fantasy Zone have joined the roster. Opa-Opa comes bundled with the Premium Pass, whereas Upa-Upa can be collected through fragments purchased for 700 standard rings each.
Also joining the fun are AiAi and MeeMee from Super Monkey Ball. If you're aiming to play as AiAi, be ready to spend 729 Red Star Rings. For a quick preview of the crossover festivities, check out the official trailer below:
Collect SEGA Logos and Unlock Exclusive Rewards
During the event, players can earn special rewards by collecting SEGA logos during matches. While it might seem unusual for an event like this to go live before the global launch, SEGA has confirmed that most of these limited-time rewards will return post-launch.
It's thrilling to see Sonic Rumble's very first crossover celebrate SEGA’s legacy and current lineup in such a vibrant way. Seeing monkeys, sentient arcade ships, and hulking were-creatures collide with Sonic and friends really highlights the game’s potential.
You can download the game now via the Google Play Store if it's available in your region—or wait for the full release on May 8th.
