"Save $40 on Used PlayStation Portal: Like New, Only on Amazon"

The PlayStation Portal has never seen an official discount—until now, that is. While you won’t find a new one on sale, you can save big by opting for a used unit. Amazon Resale (formerly known as Amazon Warehouse) currently offers Used: Like New PS Portals for just $158.70 shipped, down from the $199 MSRP. That’s a solid 20% in savings. Although a manufacturer warranty may not be included, these units still qualify under Amazon’s standard 30-day return policy. Given the demand, we expect this deal to vanish quickly.

The PS Portal is Sony's dedicated handheld streaming device designed for use with the PS5 console. It resembles a stretched DualSense controller split into two halves, with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen embedded between them. This device allows you to stream PS5 games at up to 60fps, effectively transforming your PS5 into a portable gaming system. The Portal replicates all the features of the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface replacing the touchpad.

It even supports remote gameplay outside the home, provided you have access to a fast and stable internet connection. Please note: the PS Portal is not a standalone device—it requires a PS5 to function. However, recent updates have changed the game.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to play games on the PS Portal. Sony has expanded functionality to include PlayStation Now cloud streaming, allowing users to stream directly from the cloud without a local console. With this change, Portal owners can either connect to their PS5 or tap into Sony’s cloud servers. Choosing the latter gives you instant access to over 120 titles, including Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Keep in mind, however, that access requires a subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 per month—a much more affordable option than purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

While there are alternative ways to stream PS5 games—like using the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices or other handhelds such as the Steam Deck—the experience isn't quite the same. These methods tend to be more complicated to set up and often lack full DualSense support.

PlayStation Portal Review – By Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device I've ever come away from loving after going in loaded with skepticism. It's such a better experience than using your phone with a slap-on controller, and it works so much better than I was anticipating. I really love the freedom it gives me to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage, especially when the rest of my family was using the TV to (somewhat ironically) play the Switch.

Bearing in mind that it’s in no way a stand-alone device and 100% requires a PlayStation 5 to function at all, the biggest things keeping the Portal from being a truly amazing device are its current lack of a way to access WiFi that requires a web browser to log in, and its lack of Bluetooth support for audio. For now, it's a great device that represents the best current solution for PlayStation Remote Play, and if it weren't for those two baffling caveats, I'd call this a must-own device for every PS5 owner who enjoys playing games on handheld—or has to compete for the household TV."
