Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the classic fantasy adventure, Labyrinth.
According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel, with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, which ultimately stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now opted for Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows Connelly's character as she journeys through a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped baby brother, aided by a cast of Jim Henson's memorable puppets.
Eggers' plate is full beyond Labyrinth. He's also directing a werewolf film, Werwulf, aiming for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England, utilizing authentic Old English dialogue. A werewolf transformation is, presumably, a key plot point.
Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, premiered last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, it centers on a real estate agent whose trip to Transylvania to broker a deal with a mysterious count unleashes terrifying vampiric events upon him and his wife.
Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review of Nosferatu here.
