PlayStation's PC Ports: PSN Accounts Now Optional (For Select Titles)

PSN Login No Longer Mandatory for Select PC Ports
Beginning after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, players will no longer be required to link a PSN account to play several PlayStation PC ports. This change applies to Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming April 2025 release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered. It's important to note that this policy does not extend to all PC ports; titles such as Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and Until Dawn will continue to require PSN account linkage.
Incentives for PSN Account Holders
While PSN accounts are no longer mandatory, Sony is incentivizing players to maintain their logins. Benefits include access to trophies, friend management features, and exclusive in-game bonuses:
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: Unlock the Armor of the Black Bear set early and receive a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Receive 50 bonus points to unlock extra features and obtain Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony indicates that further incentives are planned, with PlayStation Studios developers actively working to add more benefits for PSN account users.
Addressing Past Backlash
This policy shift follows considerable player backlash in 2024. The mandatory PSN linkage for Helldivers 2 resulted in its delisting from numerous regions lacking PSN support. Similar criticism targeted God of War Ragnarök's PC port. The limited global availability of PSN (approximately 70+ countries) presented significant barriers for players worldwide. This latest announcement reflects Sony's commitment to learning and adapting to the needs of its PC player base.
