Star Wars fans are eager to delve deeper into the universe following the conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker, and they won't have to wait for Shawn Levy's much-anticipated film, Star Wars: Starfighter, to do so. Instead, a new young adult novel titled Star Wars: The Last Order will provide an earlier look into the post-Rise of Skywalker era. Revealed by publisher Penguin Random House, this novel will focus on the beloved characters Finn, portrayed by John Boyega, and Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie, who were introduced in the 2019 film.
The official synopsis for Star Wars: The Last Order, penned by Kwame Mbalia, reads: “Following the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order. As Finn and Jannah set out to find the First Order officer responsible before he can endanger any more children, the two former stormtroopers must wrestle with their own complicated pasts as soldiers of the oppressive regime.” This narrative promises a thrilling exploration of the aftermath of the Skywalker saga, focusing on the personal journeys of Finn and Jannah.
While Star Wars: The Last Order marks the first project to explore the universe post-Rise of Skywalker, it's not the only one on the horizon. Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter is still eagerly awaited, and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has provided insights into its placement within the Star Wars timeline. In a February interview with Deadline, Kennedy stated, “It’s all post-[the first] nine. Shawn’s is a standalone Star Wars story that'll take place post-nine, maybe five or six years out.” Jonathan Tropper, the writer for the project, expressed his enthusiasm to Screen Rant last month, saying, "I hope it's on the way sooner than you think." The film, which will star Ryan Gosling, has been scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
