"PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Ends After Three Years"

by Michael Jul 09,2025

Sony has officially announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just under three years after its initial launch.

As of today, the rewards program no longer accepts new members. Furthermore, users who decide to cancel their membership will not be able to rejoin, and all accumulated reward points will be permanently deleted upon cancellation.

Existing members, however, can continue earning points until July 23, 2025. Any remaining balance of points can still be redeemed up until November 3, 2026.

In a statement, Sony confirmed that Digital Collectibles associated with PlayStation Stars will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. That means you’ll still be able to admire your 3D digital Jim Ryan bobblehead for quite some time to come.

“Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends,” said Grace Chen, vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise at PlayStation, in an official blog post.

“Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.”

No successor or replacement for PlayStation Stars was announced, and further details regarding the insights gained from the program were not disclosed.

Launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars was designed to reward PS5 owners with points that held real-world cash value, based on spending within the PlayStation Store. Additional points could be earned by completing tasks such as trying out system features, playing specific games, or participating in surveys.

The program was positioned as a direct competitor to Microsoft’s Xbox Rewards. Over time, both programs underwent changes that reduced the monetary value of earned points. PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long outage last summer before returning with modifications. Then in October, Sony adjusted the program to reduce point expiration time from 24 months to 12 months and removed PlayStation Plus subscriptions from being eligible for point accrual.

Now, the entire initiative is set to vanish completely.
