PlayStation Portal: Now $148 on Amazon - Like New Condition

by Joseph May 15,2025

The PlayStation Portal has never been discounted, but savvy shoppers can now score a deal on a used unit. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, is offering a Used: Like New condition PS Portal for just $148 shipped. Normally priced at $199 new, this represents a significant 26% savings. While a Sony warranty may or may not be included, all Amazon Resale purchases come with the same 30-day return policy as new items. Given its popularity, we anticipate a quick sell-out.

Update: The price has now dropped to $150.23, marking the lowest price yet for a Used: Like New unit.

The PS Portal, Sony's innovative handheld accessory for the PS5, resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller featuring an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device, streaming games at up to 60fps. The controller includes all the features of the DualSense, such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen that substitutes for the DualSense's touchpad. You can stream games even when away from home, provided you have a stable and fast internet connection. However, remember that the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to operate.

Excitingly, you no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has rolled out a feature allowing users to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. This means Portal owners can connect either to their PS5 or to Sony's cloud servers, which have recently received quality-of-life beta updates. Opt for the cloud option, and you'll gain access to over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Note that to take advantage of this, you must subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 per month—a far more affordable option than purchasing a PS5 and individual games.

While the PlayStation Portal is a fantastic way to stream PS5 games over Wi-Fi, it's not the only method. You can achieve similar functionality by using the PS Remote Play app on other devices, including gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, this alternative is more complex to set up and lacks some of the DualSense's unique features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal has surpassed my expectations in the most delightful way. It provides a superior experience compared to using a phone with an attached controller, and it performs better than I anticipated. I appreciate the freedom it offers to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi, especially when my family is using the TV to play the Switch. While it's not a standalone device and absolutely requires a PlayStation 5, the Portal's potential is slightly hindered by its inability to access WiFi networks that require a web browser login and its lack of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these limitations, it remains the best solution for PlayStation Remote Play. Without these caveats, it would be an essential device for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or needs to share the household TV."
