Fields of Mistria, lauded for its well-developed romance options and engaging storylines, leaves players wondering: can you actually date the romanceable characters?

The short answer is a nuanced "not yet." While traditional dating isn't currently a core mechanic, the existing romance system is robust and rewarding, justifying the game's price point.

The November 2024 update significantly enhanced the romance system, increasing the relationship level cap from four hearts to six, and adding new heart events for each romanceable NPC. These events, featuring playable cutscenes, unlock at two, four, and six hearts, with plans for eight and ten-heart events in future updates. However, the March 2025 update won't include further heart level increases or new events.

Despite the lack of explicit dating, the existing romantic interactions are exceptionally well-written, featuring flirty dialogue and ambiguous events that leave room for romantic interpretation. The gradual progression of relationships feels deeply satisfying.

A significant addition in the last major update was the Shooting Star Festival. This summer event allows for date-like interactions with eligible NPCs (requiring four hearts). Currently, you can share a stargazing experience with Caldarus, although this doesn't trigger a date in the same way as other options. Future updates may alter this. The March 2025 update is expected to unlock the dragon's romance storyline.
