Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Mouse Theory Is Looking Pretty Good Right About Now

by Stella Mar 04,2025

Following this morning's Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, rumors suggesting Joy-Con functionality as a mouse seem increasingly plausible.

PlayThe reveal trailer shows detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface. They connect to connectors with seemingly flat bottoms, moving across the surface like a mouse on a mousepad. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on an internal Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision applications in mouse-and-keyboard-centric games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative uses within Nintendo's first-party titles. The possibilities remain open.

Despite uncertainties surrounding potential mouse support and a new Joy-Con button, we have significant information. The console is officially named Nintendo Switch 2, launching in 2025, with a new Mario Kart title in development. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, and further software announcements are promised in an April Direct. Stay updated on all our Nintendo Switch 2 coverage here.
