Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, developer NetEase has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu explained: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working with their development kits. If we can deliver a high-quality gaming experience on the Switch 2, we're definitely open to it. The original Switch's hardware couldn't provide the performance needed for our game. But if that hurdle is overcome, we'll consider it seriously."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics are scarce, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, rumors suggest mouse-like control functionality, potentially bridging the gap between console and PC shooter controls for games like Marvel Rivals. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms, and we highly recommend it. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "might closely resemble existing hero shooters, but it's well-positioned to become the genre's leading title." The Human Torch and The Thing are set to join the roster on February 21st.
