The question on every gamer’s mind is how easy it will be to get a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and throughout 2025. According to Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, the company expects to have enough units available to meet consumer demand “through the holidays.” In an interview with IGN discussing the opening of the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser shared that while there has been a strong positive response to the Switch 2, Nintendo has a plan in place for a steady supply of consoles through 2025.
The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, and Nintendo has forecasted production numbers based on its previous success. As Bowser explained:
“Mr. Furukawa last week announced that we'll have 15 million units in our forecast for Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units for Nintendo Switch during the fiscal year,”
This production forecast was largely inspired by what Nintendo achieved with the original Switch during its first ten months on the market. Based on this strategy and current planning, Nintendo believes it can maintain availability across the U.S. market. Bowser also noted that preorder interest has been high, which aligns with their expectations. The good news is, Nintendo has a plan to keep consoles flowing into stores and directly to consumers through the holiday season.
Despite the optimism, initial preorder experiences were challenging. After a delay due to tariff concerns, Switch 2 preorders launched on April 24 at a fixed price of $449.99 — and as expected, inventory disappeared quickly. Nintendo even issued a notice to U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store, stating that delivery by launch date cannot be guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
Still, Bowser's comments suggest that those who registered for a preorder will eventually receive a console. For more details on how and where to secure your Switch 2 ahead of launch, check out IGN’s comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
Tariff Concerns and Pricing Stability
With rising concerns over potential price increases due to tariffs, IGN asked Bowser whether Nintendo could commit to maintaining the $450 price point beyond launch. While he didn’t give a definitive long-term guarantee, Bowser emphasized that the company made a clear commitment by announcing the pricing upfront.
“We made a commitment by announcing the pricing of both the single SKU at $449 and then the bundled SKU with Mario Kart World at $499,” Bowser said.
He added that Nintendo felt it was important to provide consumers with confidence in the announced prices, even after new tariffs were introduced. While the situation remains fluid, the company is committed to keeping the Nintendo Switch 2 accessible under changing economic conditions.
“Our commitment is to find ways within existing market conditions or changing market conditions to make our products, including Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, as obtainable as we possibly can.”
