Get ready for the next round of fatalities! A first look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 has been revealed.
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster featuring Urban, styled as a faux Johnny Cage movie poster, complete with the over-the-top action one would expect from the character. The image is a clever marketing ploy, promoting the real Mortal Kombat 2 film.
This sequel directly follows the 2021 reboot, starring Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Joe Taslim. Joining the cast are several newcomers, including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.
While plot details remain under wraps, the vast lore of the Mortal Kombat video games provides ample source material. The first film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat tournament and the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
Unlike its predecessor, which debuted on HBO Max due to pandemic-related disruptions, Mortal Kombat 2 is slated for a theatrical release on October 24, 2025. The original film received a 7/10 rating in our review, praised for its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles.”
