The cast for Star Wars: Starfighter is coming together, with Mia Goth reportedly joining Ryan Gosling in the anticipated sci-fi adventure.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Goth, recognized for her roles as Maxine Minx and Pearl in the X horror series, will portray a villain in the Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine. Filming is slated to begin in England this fall, with a theatrical release planned for May 28, 2027.

THR reports that Gosling’s character is tasked with shielding his young nephew from dangerous adversaries, one of whom is played by Goth. Lucasfilm has not provided a statement.

Starfighter is set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, the final chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but remains a standalone story. “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel,” Levy emphasized at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in April. “It’s a fresh journey in an unexplored era of the timeline.”

Starfighter is poised to follow the 2026 release of The Mandalorian and Grogu as the next Star Wars cinematic release. While it shares its name with a classic PS2/Xbox-era video game series, including 2001’s Star Wars: Starfighter and 2002’s Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, the film is not expected to draw from their narratives.

The Rise of Skywalker concludes with the defeat of Emperor Palpatine, leaving the galaxy’s future unclear after the Battle of Exegol. Daisy Ridley is confirmed to return in a Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy-directed sequel to The Rise of Skywalker, which follows Rey’s efforts to restore the Jedi Order about 15 years later. Starfighter, however, is set earlier in the timeline.
