Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image from Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, showcasing Hollywood star Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus.

Following the massive success of his 2023 biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan's next venture, The Odyssey, reimagines the classic Ancient Greek epic poem originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. The film is slated for release on July 17, 2026.

The official synopsis describes The Odyssey as:

Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

The Odyssey chronicles the epic journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he embarks on a decade-long quest to return home following the Trojan War. Although Universal has kept further details under wraps, rumors have begun to circulate about the impressive ensemble cast that will join Damon.

Matt Damon, fresh off his role in Nolan's Oppenheimer, which clinched seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, was the first actor linked to The Odyssey. Reports suggest he will be accompanied by a stellar lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
