Opting for the Switch 2 bundle that includes Super Mario Kart World saves you $30 compared to purchasing the console and game separately. If you prefer a tangible copy, you might want to spend the extra $30 and pre-order the standalone game.

Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99

When purchased on its own, Mario Kart World is priced at $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price for AAA titles on PlayStation and Xbox this generation. While I'm not thrilled about rising game prices between console generations, I understand that development costs have soared. Hopefully, the expansive scope of Mario Kart World will justify the additional cost.

What Is Mario Kart World?

Play *Mario Kart World* is set to redefine the racing genre with its open-world format, drawing inspiration from games like the Forza Horizon series. The game features a Grand Prix mode where you can seamlessly transition from one race to another across the expansive world.

The dynamic environments in Mario Kart World are influenced by weather and time of day, impacting visibility and traction during races. Players can explore "virtually everywhere" off the main tracks, as promised by Nintendo. Races now include up to 24 drivers, a significant increase from previous entries.

A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges players to race across the open world, passing through checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Fail to meet these, and you're out of the race. For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode allows you to cruise at your leisure, team up with friends, and capture memorable moments.

Stay tuned for more details on Mario Kart World during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for a deeper dive into what to expect.
