Killer Instinct Gold Hits Nintendo Switch Online

by Lily Oct 31,2025

Killer Instinct Gold has arrived as the newest Nintendo 64 title added to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service.

This enhanced port of the arcade hit Killer Instinct 2 joins its predecessor in the growing catalog of classic games accessible through the Online Expansion Pack.

Originally launched in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by UK-based Rare, Nintendo's prolific second-party developer responsible for legendary titles like Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye 007, and Perfect Dark. Players can select from 10 brutal combatants and master hundreds of devastating moves across multiple gameplay modes.

While Microsoft now owns Rare and the Killer Instinct franchise (making this another Xbox Studios title on Switch), the 2013 Xbox One reboot remains the series' most recent installment with no sequel currently planned.

Nintendo Switch Online offers subscribers cloud saves, multiplayer functionality, and access to a vast retro library spanning NES through Nintendo 64 - soon expanding to include GameCube titles with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. New members can try the service free for seven days.

The $449.99 Nintendo Switch 2 preorders sold out rapidly in April. While Nintendo cautions U.S. customers about potential delivery delays due to unprecedented demand, NOA president Doug Bowser assures adequate holiday season stock will be available.
