Players of Honkai: Star Rail will recognize Herta, as her eventual arrival has been anticipated by many, especially those familiar with the Herta puppets available since launch. Interestingly, unlike characters such as Fugue or Imbibitor Lunae, this version of Herta follows the same path and element as her 4-star counterpart. Her gameplay, however, is notably different. Her core mechanic centers on accumulating Interpretation stacks—gained whenever any ally attacks an enemy—which then significantly boost Herta's damage output.
To optimize her performance, players should form teams with allies capable of frequent AoE attacks, especially follow-up attacks, as these efficiently generate stacks.
Another key feature is Herta's bonus ability, Message From Beyond the Veil, which grants all allies an 80% Crit DMG increase, provided another Erudition character is in the party. This makes Herta particularly strong in dual DPS compositions featuring another Erudition unit. Below are some optimal team pairings that capitalize on Herta's unique playstyle.

Top Premium Team for Herta
The combination of Jade, Robin, and Lingsha forms Herta's strongest lineup at launch, as each member complements her mechanics exceptionally well. Herta benefits most from allies who frequently perform AoE attacks while remaining skill point positive, making Jade an ideal Erudition partner. Not only does Jade provide buffs for Herta, but her quick follow-up attacks synergize seamlessly with Herta's stacking needs—especially when Herta is targeted as a Debt Collector, rapidly triggering Jade's follow-ups.
For the remaining slots, a buffer and sustain unit are essential. Lingsha excels as a sustain option due to her healing and frequent AoE follow-up attacks, which further boost stack generation. Her ability to maintain high HP is especially useful since Herta's health periodically drops as the Debt Collector. Aventurine is another strong choice for his powerful shields, though his bouncing follow-up attack doesn't generate stacks as consistently. Other sustain units like Huo Huo or Fu Xuan offer valuable utility though lack frequent attacks.
For the buffer role, Robin stands out by enhancing follow-up attacks and providing general damage buffs while advancing team turns—a significant advantage in turn-sensitive endgame content. If Robin is unavailable, her brother Sunday is a solid alternative who provides strong single-target buffs. Ruan Mei is another excellent support option, offering team-wide buffs with high skill point efficiency. All three allow Herta to use her Skill frequently without draining resources.

Top Free-to-Play Team for Herta
Even on a budget, Herta can shine in a unique and fun setup featuring her 4-star version, Remembrance Trailblazer, and Gallagher. Herta’s 4-star form is one of her best Erudition partners after Jade, offering the chance to field both versions together. While her follow-up attack requires enemy health to drop below 50%, limiting frequency in some scenarios, the two Hertas still accumulate Interpretation stacks effectively. Serval is another strong 4-star alternative, offering solid AoE and synergy for stack building.
Remembrance Trailblazer fits perfectly into the third slot, especially for Ice-focused teams. Even without Ice advantage, Trailblazer performs well alongside Herta—her summon, Mem, deals True DMG when charged and boosts ally Crit DMG via her talent. If Trailblazer is used elsewhere, Pela is an excellent substitute, debuffing enemies with an SP-positive style and AoE attacks. Tingyun is another option, providing ATK and Energy buffs, though her lack of AoE means fewer stacks for Herta.
Gallagher rounds out the team as a flexible sustain option. His SP-friendly playstyle and AoE Ultimate offer consistent value, though any available healer or sustain unit can fill this role.
