Nintendo has revealed the first official glimpse of a Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridge, just weeks before the console's debut.
A recent video on the Nintendo Today app showcases the official Switch 2 carrying case, designed with slots to securely hold up to six cartridges from both Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2.
As expected, Switch 2 cartridges match the size and shape of Switch 1 cartridges, allowing the Switch 2 to use a single slot for games from both console generations. However, a notable distinction lies in the cartridge color.
Switch 2 cartridges are uniformly red, a choice evident beyond just the Mario Kart World cartridge featured in Nintendo's video. (The video is also available via OatmealDome on X / Twitter for those without the Nintendo Today app.)
The cartridge's printed label now features a Switch 2 logo, replacing the original Nintendo Switch design.

Here's a look inside the official Switch 2 carrying case. It has room for the console with the Joy-Con 2 attached, six cartridges, and two Joy-Con 2 straps.

Otherwise, Switch 2 cartridges remain identical, including the bitter coating Nintendo applies to deter accidental ingestion.
"We prioritize safety to prevent unintended consumption," Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta previously shared with GameSpot. "The coating ensures you'll spit it out if it enters your mouth."
