Fortnite Gets Major Upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 Launch

Epic Games has announced significant technical enhancements for Fortnite's upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version, including mouse support arriving in an imminent update.

The enhanced version of the battle royale phenomenon will feature improved performance with 60FPS gameplay and upgraded resolutions (2176x1224 docked, 1600x900 handheld). Players will also benefit from extended draw distance for better long-range combat, along with improved clothing physics, higher-quality textures, enhanced shadows, and refined water effects.

New Features Coming to Switch 2 Version

The Switch 2 iteration introduces replay functionality - absent from the original Switch version - allowing players to review matches and analyze defeats. Notably, the Save the World mode remains unavailable as it has never launched on Nintendo platforms.

Fortnite's Version 37.00 update, releasing June 7, will implement mouse controls that replace the right analog stick functionality, utilizing the Joy-Con 2's optical sensor for camera movement.

Universal Mouse Support

The mouse controls will be available across all major game modes including Battle Royale, Zero Build, Team Rumble, Reload variations, and Fortnite OG versions. Players will also enjoy mouse navigation in menus.

Launch Incentives

From now through March 31, 2026, Switch 2 players will receive the exclusive Wishing Star emote - a whimsical gesture allowing players to "catch" and toss a shooting star, complete with a subtle Kirby franchise reference.

Current Galactic Battle Season

The Star Wars-themed Galactic Battle season concludes June 7 with a special live event where players infiltrate the Death Star. This follows recent AI-related announcements from Epic regarding both Fortnite and Unreal Engine development.
