Funcom has officially announced the global launch schedule for Dune: Awakening.
Drawing inspiration from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment's cinematic hits, Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO that transports players to the treacherous world of Arrakis, offering an unprecedented open-world experience.
Players survive by mastering Fremen traditions and enhance their abilities through combat, spice harvesting, construction, and trade. The game launches on June 10, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, following a three-week delay to address feedback from beta testing. Those with head start access can begin playing five days earlier, starting June 5.
Our hands-on time with the game was highly positive, as noted in IGN's Dune: Awakening beta preview: "For longtime fans of the Dune universe, it's incredibly rewarding to explore and uncover new layers of a beloved setting. Funcom has invested significant effort into worldbuilding and lore, even while taking creative liberties by situating Awakening within an alternate reality separate from the books and films."
Last week, Funcom hosted a livestream showcasing Dune: Awakening's mid-to-endgame content and an extensive tour of the Hagga Basin. The stream highlighted the "scale and diversity players can anticipate," featuring areas like "the verdant O’odham, the daunting Hagga Rift, and the towering spires of Jabal Eifrit." Beta testers had previously seen only about a quarter of the Hagga Basin, making this the first full reveal of its expansive and varied terrain.
"Before venturing into the vast dunes and perils of the Deep Desert, players will engage in a comprehensive survival experience," Funcom revealed.
"They can ascend the ranks of House Atreides or Harkonnen; construct formidable strongholds; conquer Imperial Testing Stations; craft advanced schematics; and explore and gather resources using a range of vehicles." Additionally, the "Landsraad system enables all players, whether they favor PvE or PvP, to contribute to their faction's overall progress."
