Fortnite's latest Star Wars season has introduced an exciting yet challenging new skin: Darth Jar Jar. This skin became available in Fortnite's Shop over the weekend, but with a twist—it's locked behind a 1.28 million XP grind. Even after reaching this milestone, players must spend 1500 V-Bucks (approximately $13) to unlock Darth Jar Jar.
While Fortnite has previously placed skins behind XP requirements, this move marks a notable departure, especially for a highly anticipated cosmetic during this condensed Star Wars season. With the season set to end on June 7, time is running out for players to earn the necessary XP, even for those who have already completed their Battle Pass.
Fan reactions on platforms like Reddit have been mixed. One player expressed frustration, stating, "I was so hyped for this skin and was fine with it being behind a pay wall, after all it is just another skin. But this whole locked behind an XP wall is ridiculous. You want me to earn the right to give you money? I immediately closed the game."
Adding to the controversy, a regular Jar Jar Binks skin is also available, sans the XP requirement but at the same cost of 1500 V-Bucks. For enthusiasts looking to collect all Jar Jar Binks accessories, including both Sith and Gungan variants, the total could reach 6,500 V-Bucks, prompting comments like, "Regular Jar Jar alone is 20 dollars. If you want both that s**t is 52 entire ass dollars for something that ought to have just been 1 skin with 3 styles."
However, not all feedback has been negative. Some players view Jar Jar as merely a cosmetic option, suggesting that those uninterested can simply ignore him. One fan shared their experience, saying, "It wasn't that hard to earn the XP took me around 8/9 hrs... I played Rocket Racing and Ranked and did Alignment Challenges to farm as much XP as possible. Nothing is making anyone get every item in the Shop you can just pick and choose, and the fact he was just 1500 V-Bucks when Deathstroke was 1,800 V-Bucks I wasn't bothered at all by the price."
As the Star Wars season progresses, Fortnite is set to spotlight Mandalorian warriors and introduce a new customizable Mandalorian skin in the Shop. The season will culminate in a live narrative event on June 7, where fans speculate they might engage with the Death Star looming over the game's Island.
In other news, Epic Games' ongoing legal battle with Apple continues to escalate, with Fortnite facing barriers to returning to the iPhone App Store in the US.
