In "For Whom the Bell Tolls," a main quest in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, Hans enlists your help once more, this time involving Trosky Castle. Your first task is to harness the power of alchemy to save someone by crafting Fever Tonic. Here's a detailed guide on how to locate the recipe and brew this crucial potion.

The recipe for Fever Tonic can be found in the Surgeon's Workshop within Trosky's Castle. You have two options to gain access to this workshop. The first method involves sneaking into the workshop stealthily. Alternatively, you can use persuasive dialogue to convince the chamberlain that you'll craft a digestive potion to alleviate his stomach issues, thereby earning you entry to the workshop.

If you prefer not to sneak, you can progress through "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by delivering the horseshoe. After completing this task, return to the forge and speak with Cook Fanka. Offer to help her with her locked chest, and she'll guide you to the noble's kitchen. Upon entering, you'll notice the chamberlain suffering from stomach pain. Engage him in conversation about his health and attempt to pass skill checks to convince him of your ability to help. Success grants you access to the Surgeon's Workshop. Crafting and delivering a digestive potion alongside the Fever Tonic will further gain the chamberlain's trust, allowing you to meet Thomas.

Should your skill checks fail, you'll need to steal some food, exit the kitchen, and navigate to the opposite side of the courtyard. Ascend the stairs to the right and enter the kitchen you're permitted to use, albeit guarded. Offer the stolen food to the guard to clear the area. Then, sneak upstairs to the Surgeon's Workshop, where you'll find the physician's journal on a bookshelf. Reading this journal will guide you in brewing your potions at the station within the room.

How to Brew Fever Tonic

The necessary herbs for the Fever Tonic are already arranged at the surgeon's station. Simply open your book to the Fever Tonicum page and follow these steps:

  • Pour wine into the cauldron.
  • Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
  • Lower the cauldron and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
  • Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves with the mortar and pestle.
  • Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
  • Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
  • Retrieve a phial from the bottom left shelf of the station, beneath the wine.
  • Distill the tonic using the Still.

Don't worry if you don't succeed on your first attempt; you have ample herbs available, and there are more in the chest within the room. Given your prior experience with potion-making, crafting the Fever Tonic should be manageable.

With the Fever Tonic in hand, proceed to find Thomas. If you've earned the chamberlain's trust by crafting the digestive potion, return to him with both potions. Otherwise, use the noble's kitchen to discreetly reach the chapel where Thomas and his sister, Adele, await. Conversing with Adele will bring the quest to a close.
