Sid Meier's Civilization VII: A VR Revolution on Meta Quest 3
Civilization VII (Civ VII) is making its VR debut this Spring 2025, exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. This marks the franchise's first foray into virtual and mixed reality gaming, a significant step announced at the Civ World Summit on February 8, 2025.
Immersive Strategy on Meta Quest 3
2K Games and Firaxis Games are thrilled to bring this immersive experience to life. Dennis Shirk, Executive Franchise Producer, expressed excitement about launching Civ VII and beginning a "new era of strategy excellence." Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, highlighted the timing, stating that "Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of [Meta's] momentum."
While Civ VII is launching on various platforms including PlayStation consoles, the VR version will be exclusive to Meta's Quest headsets.
Tabletop Gaming Reimagined
Civ VII VR transports players to a virtual command table, offering both immersive VR and mixed reality modes. Players can zoom in on intricate details or survey their empire from a commanding height, mimicking the feel of a physical board game. Single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer (up to four players) are all supported. Online multiplayer necessitates a 2K and Meta account.
Addressing Player Feedback
Firaxis Games is actively addressing feedback from Civ VII's early access period (available since February 6th for Deluxe and Founder's Edition owners). The team is prioritizing UI improvements, focusing on intuitiveness, map readability, and overall polish. Future updates will also incorporate community requests such as team-based multiplayer and expanded map variety. A quality-of-life update in March will address UI issues, AI balancing, diplomacy, and bug fixes.

Civilization VII VR is slated for release this Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with a precise date yet to be announced.
